Rhythm changes are an essential part of any jazz pianist’s repertoire. The popular AABA structure lends itself well to soloing and therefore it’s an important call on the bandstand. To help you practice Rhythm Changes we’ve put together a backing track with 6 choruses of Bass and Drums in the key of Bb at 160 bpm. This will allow you to practice the changes over and over again until it all sits well underneath your fingers.
To catch a tutorial of Paul Tobey talking about rhythm changes please see “Rhythm Changes Backing Track” video on YouTube
This is an example of Paul Tobey soloing over the backing track.
